It Takes a Village
For all aspiring engineers and architects, design and build a 3D small scale village from sculpted paper only or from wire, wood levers and pulleys and papier-mâché structures integrating geometry, spatial sense, physics and visual art. Artists Ken Kettlewell and Paul Walty. Available in French.
Mapping My Neighbourhood
With a combination of art techniques, materials and approaches, students create a self-portrait map collage. The artist walks everyone through each step—mapping out our route home, drawing self-portraits, things in our surroundings—in the creation of a unique collage that represents how we all belong here. Artists Lynette Gillis, Jane Gulland and Amelia Jimenez. Available in French.
Paint Our Built & Natural Communities
Integrate language, science and social studies building a wall mural showing growth and changes in plants, urban and rural communities, two and three dimensional shapes integrating simple poems to describe community and life patterns and changes. Artists Elizabeth Greisman, Jane Gulland, Pria Muzumdar, Patrice Stanley, Marsha Stonehouse and Allycia Uccello.
Paint Our Land
Students learn the six visual elements: colour, shape, line, space, texture and volume while working individually and in a group with paint brushes, mixing paints and applying to small canvas and then bringing it all together in one large visual canvas inspired by Canada’s Group of Seven. Artist Elizabeth Greisman, Karen Harkins, Amelia Jimenez, Patrice Stanley, Marsha Stonehouse and Allycia Uccello. Available in French.
